First Principals Estimating
A good estimator knows which documents to prioritise, in what order, and they work a method.

Understand the job: Review the scope of works, drawings, specifications and related documents; confirm inclusions/exclusions, standards and interfaces.
Build it on paper: Map sequencing and staging, temporary works, access and logistics; align with the construction programme and procurement lead times; stress-test means and methods.
Reality check: Assess site constraints (access, utilities, neighbours, working hours); select plant and methods that actually fit; adjust production rates, allowances and risk.
Why it matters: Clarity up front, fewer surprises, and an estimate you can defend when procurement and programme decisions count.
